The new novel in the award-winning mystery series that “moves like lightning” (Kirkus Reviews)

Free Fall The John Ceepak Mysteries Book 8 edition by Chris Grabenstein Literature Fiction eBooks

It's with a real sense of sadness that I've come to the end of this marvelous series. I live in hope that Chris Grabenstein will see fit to continue it. It's always been filled with (often) laugh-out-loud humor-- and Free Fall certainly isn't an exception-- but the real reason I love these books is the growth of Danny Boyle's character. At the beginning, he's a rather lazy kid who wants to do good and have a good time on the beach, but he lacks real direction. That's where John Ceepak fits in. Ceepak is a truly good man who sometimes seems to be too much of a straight arrow to be real, but he's the role model Danny Boyle was hungering for. Now in the eighth book, Danny has grown up. He's had to do some really tough things in the line of duty. He's been affected by them and is still facing the consequences, but he's no longer a kid. Now the team of Ceepak and Boyle is a true partnership. And it makes you proud... as though you had something to do with it.

The suspect pool in Free Fall is long and distinguished, and it's simply a matter of narrowing it down to the right person and the right motivation. Sometimes those are the most enjoyable mysteries to solve.

If you enjoy mysteries filled with action, intriguing investigations, marvelous characters and emotions that run from gales of laughter to (now and then) brushing a tear from your eye, I heartily recommend Chris Grabenstein's Ceepak and Boyle mysteries. Begin at the beginning with Tilt-a-Whirl. The entire series is a delight.

Free Fall The John Ceepak Mysteries Book 8 edition by Chris Grabenstein Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I love the characters and have enjoyed the way they have been developed throughout the series. Each book can be read alone but I enjoyed reading them in order. They are easy reads or listens.. Great for a car ride or the beach... But they also have good insights into people. This book was published in 2013 and it is currently the last of the series.... Please give us the next installment. I want to know what happens with Danny... The conclusion to the book and situation was good... But the author developed for me a real connection to the characters and one was left facing a situation I would love to see resolved.
This is the 8th novel featuring John Ceepak and Danny Boyle and they just keep getting better and better.
By this time I feel that Ceepak and Danny are old friends and Chris Grabenstein does a wonderful job of keeping the characters moving and growing.
The plot in this one is multi-pronged and Ceepak's nemesis his father rears his ugly head again.
At the beginning Danny is on patrol with a new partner since Ceepak is now chief of detectives. However since there have been budget cuts there's no money for other detectives so Danny must go back on patrol. But soon some intriguing happenings let Danny once again join forces with Ceepak. To give away the plot would be a crime so suffice it to say that there are twists and turns and ups and downs and the pace never slackens.
It is one of those books that you can't stop reading while you're reading it and when you're done with it you wish you hadn't read it yet so you could have the pleasure of reading it again for the first time.
Chris Grabenstein is an incredible author. I highly recommend this and his other works.
This book solves one problem but leaves wide open another. I can't wait for the next one.
I wish that Mr. Grabenstein, like Charles Dickens, came out with a weekly episode.
Ceepak, and increasingly Danny, live by a code of honor that would serve us all well. Roger that.
Free Fall is latest entry in the John Ceepak/Danny Boyle series set in Sea Haven on the Jersey shore. Grabenstein keeps his tongue firmly in cheek - Ceepak is a 'nothing but the facts' Eagle scout with a moral code for every circumstance. Danny Boyle is his young associate learning at the feet of the master.

Sea Haven is a summer resort town with the appropriate beach emphasis and cute businesses on the boardwalk. There is also a number of amusement park rides. One such ride - the Free Fall is a transplant from Michigan where it was responsible for the death of a young girl. Ceepak is going to be sure nothing like that happens in Sea Haven - demanding a properly trained operator. Unfortunately that trained operator turns out to be his 'no account' father - returned to town to get money from his ex-wife. Ceepak and Danny spend more than a little time attempting to circumvent his efforts.

But a murder in town has them busy - a 94 year old resident of the community has been helped along to his death .... but by whom?

This is a perfect summer read - Sea Haven is once again the scene of shenanigans only Ceepak can get to the bottom of ....

HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
It's always a joy to see a new Ceepak-and-Danny mystery. The characters are so well drawn, so well developed (and developing) and so ingratiating--without pandering to the reader--that the fact that the plots are ingenious is icing on the cake. This time out, John Ceepak is chief of detectives--and the only detective--in the Sea Haven department, and asks his ex-partner Danny Boyle to help when a number of factors converge on the Jersey Shore town. No need to reiterate the plot here; suffice it to say that the boys are back in town, and it couldn't be a more welcome sign. The effects of "Superstorm" Sandy are being felt "down the shore" even now, and they are evident here, but not so much that it gets in the way. The core of the story, as always, is the give-and-take between the two main characters. Ceepak, who could in lesser hands be seen as rigid and unemotional, is neither, worried as his abusive, alcoholic father has slunk back into town, and subtly threatening his ex-wife, Ceepak's mother. Ceepak leans on Danny, who's growing into a fine man and officer as the series continues, for support, which is both a little worrisome--Ceepak never needs help--and touching. Bravo to Chris Grabenstein for never letting the series become automatic and commonplace. It's still always welcome news that Danny and Ceepak are back. I hope they return again soon!
